Gimme a C!

I know I've mentioned before that I'm not a huge fan of the rotating captaincy. I kind of understand why the Sabres did it last year - all three letter wearers were gone, Teppo Numminen very suddenly, and none of the kids had ever had that responsibility before - but I was really hoping Lindy Ruff and his staff would pick three guys to carry the letters all season this time around. I was disappointed to hear Lindy address all questions about this year's captaincy with some variation of, "Well, the players seemed to really like it."

I have to admit, I got a huge kick out of Mike Harrington's recent article about the captain situation. You can read the whole article at the link but here's the short version:

Lindy said, "We’ve discussed it as a staff but still haven’t come to a conclusion. I think the guys liked it."

Jaroslav Spacek said, "I have no clue what they’re going to do but I think we should have one captain."

Jason Pominville said, "If it was my decision, I would probably name one or two and go that way."

Ryan Miller said, "It’s up to Lindy but consistency is always good from my side of things."

Yeah, Lindy. The guys, they sound crazy about the idea.

So it might be the dayquil, but the sarcasm in this sentence has had me rolling for the last 10 minutes!

Sounds like Lindy and Jacques Lemaire are on the same captain clueless page.

Chaz, I'm so glad the sarcasm came across because believe me, I was rolling my eyes when I typed that sentence.

Kirsten, I suspect the issue here is that Lindy's gonna do what Lindy's gonna do. He knows it, the players know it, we all know it. What he says goes. (Sorry about the Twins!)

I hope Lindy takes in consideration what the veterans think in the locker room... the obviously think one or two is a good fit... and maybe he should consider that.

As much as I love Lindy, there's two issues I will always have with him: his enamorement with Andrew Peters and his indecision with the captaincy.

And being a Staffy fan, the way he publicly expected this kid to replace Chris Drury's production in his first full season. Come on, Lindy!

C!

I thought we were cheering.

Thanks. I'm bummed about the Twins, especially since it was the White Sox, but I'll live since hockey is so close.

That's the same situation in Minnesota. Jacques Lemaire does what he wants to whether anyone likes it or not. I'd personally like to see a lot of of that C adorning Mikko Koivu...
