The Good, the Bad, and the Immature But Funny

I've been a lazy blogger this weekend and now other bloggers have already said the things I would've said so let me sum up:

Not playing a full 60 minutes and putting yourself in a hole = BAD

Having the confidence and mental strength to come back even in the waning minutes of the game = GOOD

Giving up a point that really should have been won = BAD

Earning 3 of 4 points on the road against good teams = GOOD

Henrik Tallinder getting hurt 8 games into the season = BAD

Henrik Tallinder not breaking any bones or lacerating any tendons, arteries, vital organs etc. = GOOD

Participating in what feels like 18 shootouts already = BAD

Doing much better in them than last season = GOOD

Flyers fans throwing stink bombs on the ice = STUPID AND IMMATURE. BUT ALSO A LITTLE BIT FUNNY.

All the hub-bub about Sarah Palin's puck drops: WHO CARES?

Doug Weight's hit on Brandon Sutter: VICIOUS BUT LEGAL.

Doug Weight's hit on Brandon Sutter being legal: BAD

The NHL even pretending to care about hits to the head at this point: AN EFFIN' JOKE

Playing Ottawa Monday night: GOOD. I LOVE PLAYING OTTAWA.

Ottawa currently being 14th in the conference: AHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA!

This year's Winter Classic jerseys: BAD. AND VERY BAD.

God Bless America during the 7th inning stretch: BAD

Take Me Out to the Ballgame during the 7th inning stretch: GOOD.

An American Idol commercial using MLB postseason highlights: FOX, YOU ARE SO SHAMELESS THAT IT'S REALLY A LITTLE EMBARRASSING.

I was hoping your "immature but funny" was Adam Mair giggling like a 16 year old boy when Pat Kaleta said the word "motorboat" in the 10 stupid questions segment, haha.

HA! That is funny!

Is it bad that I think that picture is kind of funny? It's not funny that he got hurt of course...but it's three in the morning and I needed a good giggle.

The Brandon Sutter hit is just like the Campbell hit on Umberger. Both had their heads down and both were knocked out. But they were legal.

I was actually insulted by this. (does that make me overly sensitive?)

"Flyers fans throwing stink bombs"

I agree, tastless & immature, but also funny.

I like the Red Wings Winter Classic sweaters more than I like the Blackhawks ones. Maybe Chelios is doing a better job modeling the sweater than Kane and Toews, but I like the retro red and white look. And this is coming from someone who normally cannot stand the Red Wings sweaters.

I used to not mind the fact that baseball games included God Bless America during the 7th inning stretch, then I read an article that said that the Yankees fans and stadium staff (who started this whole new tradition) basically turned into complete and total idiots if someone dared to leave their seats during the singing of the song. There's no need for nastiness during what is supposed to be a beautiful and patriotic song.

I've been to baseball games in Philly and they ask you to "please stand and remove your hat" for "God Bless America". It was all I could do to keep from running around the stadium shouting, "THIS IS NOT OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM! EVERYONE -- SIT DOWN! PUT YOUR HATS BACK ON!"

This post made me think of Good Idea/Bad Idea from Animaniacs.
Good Idea: Playing cops and robbers in the park.
Bad Idea: Playing cops and robbers in the bank.

Animaniacs were the best.

Heather, you may want to sit down. Hank isn't going to play tonight. He was having trouble skating at the morning skate and the team called Weber up to replace him.

Kirsten, that picture of Hank completely cracks me up so I'm okay with you enjoying it. (For the record, it's not a photo of the most recent injury. It's after he was boarded in the playoffs a couple of years ago.)

Redhead, I was insulted as well. I just sat gobsmacked, not quite processing what I was watching. I'm not even an American Idol hater but the combination just killed me.

Amy, I'm not CRAZY about either sweater but I do definitely like Detroit's better than Chicago's. And thank you for breaking the news about Hank so gently. I had a feeling he might get a couple of games off so I'm not TOO surprised or disappointed... yet :)

Zach, you're right and I know you're right. Sutter had his head down and he was leaning forward. And I know hockey is a rough and tumble sport and people are moving at high speeds and sometimes things happen. But I get sick to my stomach watching guys lying on the ice or stumbling to the bench and I'm rapidly approaching a place where I think any hit that connects with the head should be a minor penalty with automatic review later to assess intent. If high sticks are automatic penalties - regardless of intention or seriousness or injury or how exactly the stick comes to hit the opposing player - I don't see why hits to heads can't be as well. There's enough proof that concussions can affect a player's quality of life after his career is over that I really think they should be taken more seriously by the league. Hmmm... Maybe I'll address this in a post later because I could talk about it for a while.

I think the Wings/'Hawks sweaters are pretty cool. Definitely old school but they are original 6 teams so it's all good. It's way better than Pittsburgh's powder blue rags from last year. I thought those things were painful.

And woo I'll be in Chicago for New Years! :) Not *at* the game but in the same city at least, unlike last year when I was in Ohio (but still watching the game.) good times. :)
