Did You Know?

Did you guys know that Joe Thornton and Brian Campbell played together when they were kids?! Man, I wish someone would tell me these things!

Also, I think tonight is Alexander Ovechkin's first playoff game! Ever!

NO WAY! And did I hear that the Caps coach was in Slap Shot?

Patty, you mean BRUCE BOUDREAU?! I HAD NO IDEA! And I simply DO NOT BELIEVE IT! HOW EXCITING!

Reporting like this is why I read Top Shelf. Where would I learn these things if not here?

Thank you so much for your deeply investigative reporting, Heather!

I vaguely remember CBC mentioning something (like 150 times) about Campbell and Thornton being teammates and housemates and soulmates who love to take long walks on the beach...well, maybe that last part was a teensy bit exaggerated...

HEATHER! DID YOU KNOW ALEXANDER OVECHKIN SCORED HIS FIRST PLAYOFF GOAL AND IT WAS THE GAME WINNING GOAL AND HE REALLY LOVES THE GAME OF HOCKEY?

Anne, I am SO thankful for the constant reminders that Alex the Gr8 has a lot of fun playing hockey! I never would have noticed that or remembered it later!

Anne, Thanks so much for catching me up! I wasn't really sure what that whole montage dedicated to him on SportsCenter was all about. I guess they just wanted to make sure that we can all comprehend that Alex the Great is the ONLY hockey player that loves what he does.

Don't forget how he's not just the only one, but the best at being happy while playing! Anybody that doubts that hates hockey... and baby seals.

How could I forget such an important and well-documented fact?!

No one on Earth is better at having fun than Alexander Ovechkin. In fact, I think I heard that he invented the concept.

You may want to double check this, but I am pretty sure Chris Drury won the Little League World Series.

I seem to remember hearing that once.

Come on! Surely, I would've heard that during his time in Buffalo!

Did you know that Ovie would have signed for $25m over 5 years if Buffalo would have just sent him the contract 4 years ago?

I think I'm in the minority here, but I love watching Ovechkin play. Just watching his obvious love of the game and his showboating (which I prefer to call celebrations) make me smile. I remember just a couple of games before the end of the season, when Goose scored the tie goal in the 3rd, he jumped backward into the glass and the look on his face was sheer delight. That is how Ovie looks on every single goal he scores.

Which is why it bothers me. It's one thing to celebrate a game-tying or game-winning goal that way. You can probably lose the celebration on the sixth goal of a blow-out however.

But if it makes you feel better, Jennifer, I think I'm actually in the minority. Most people seem to agree with you :P I should just stop griping and try to embrace it.

I don't know any hockey connections but did you know that David Wright and Ryan Zimmerman played summer baseball together in high school? Zimmerman was an even better third baseman so Wright had to move to second base/shortstop.
