I Wanna Be Kate! Kate! Kate! Kate!

Please open this link in another tab or window, turn up your speakers, and listen to it while you read the following. It's the mood-setter:

I love the Buffalo blogosphere. I do. I think it's full of cool people who write really good blogs. Funny, smart, and insightful blogs. We got it all somewhere, folks. I think we also mostly like each other and support each other which is really nice. We're like a little family. I want people to read my blog but I also want people to read Bfloblog, and the Goose's Roost, and Shots Off the Crossbar etc. etc. That said, I'm not going to lie, I have a special little place in my heart for one Sabres blog out there. If Kevin is the cool dad, always there to hang out or offer support and the Roost guys are the goofy little brothers that you can't help but love even when you want to (affectionately) punch them in the head a little then Katebits is my really cool twin sister.

Kate and I entered the hockey blogosphere around the same time. She started reading and commenting on blogs about the time I started Top Shelf - I believe she was one of my first commenters - and I had the pleasure of being around while she was in the planning stages of the Willful Caboose which is, as you all know, a totally kickin' blog. If you just read my blog, you're missing out on some things. If you just read the Willful Caboose, you're missing out on some things. But if you read BOTH blogs, I think you have a pretty complete picture and that's kind of how I think of Kate and me in general. Separately we both have holes in our knowledge, small (very small) weaknesses, blind spots. Together? Well, it's just a matter of time before we take over the Buffalo media because we're awesome. Consider that your warning, Buffalo. In addition to being an awesome blogger, Kate's just a really cool chick. She's smart and funny and a lot of fun to hang out with. As the song says, when she smiles it's a rainbow and you can see daisies in her footsteps. No, it's true!

The reason I bring this up now is because it was one year ago today that the Willful Caboose officially entered the world. I remember the shift in the interwebs like it was yesterday. Things will never be the same and that's a good thing. I think. I'm pretty sure. So here's a hearty "Happy anniversary!" to Kate and a boisterous, "Let's go Buff-a-lo!" to everyone who makes the Buffalo blogosphere what it is. And yes, that includes you.

I wanna be Kate!

Disclaimer: I picked the song "Kate" to accompany this post for obvious reasons but I have never seen Katebits smoke pot. Just so we're clear.

Heather, I just read this post three times because this might be the most unexpected and fun thing that has ever been written about me and it's taken a second for it to sink in.

Okay.

It is with no small love in my heart, and a not imaginary tear in my eye that I say, "Holy Toledo thank you for writing this incredibly thoughtful post, and I feel exactly the same way." You are TOTALLY my wondertwin sister, and we are TOTALLY going to take this shiznizzle over, and we are TOTALLY better when read together. (But I'm sorry, you are WRONG when you say we have weaknesses and blind spots. Heh.) And just so you know, your guidance in the infancy of my fandom played an essential role in how I think about sports. I wouldn't have started TWC without you.

Wondertwins activate!

I hadn't even thought of my blog anniversary! This is like a blogging surprise party! (Also, I have always secretly LOVED this song.)

This is about the nicest thing EVER! Thank you so much, HeatherB!

I was here first so you get to be the bucket of water :P

And Kate, if I had a fun, kicky song written by a talented guy that was basically an ode to me, I'd NEVER stop listening to it.

(But I'm sorry, you are WRONG when you say we have weaknesses and blind spots. Heh.)

(I've been working on humility. Of course we don't have any weaknesses or blind spots. Crunchy never misses a save he should have made and Hank never screws up. It's always someone else's fault. I know this, you know this... Not everyone else is as smart and observant as us.)

(Other people can't see it if I write it in parentheses, right?)

And just so you know, your guidance in the infancy of my fandom played an essential role in how I think about sports.

Clearly. Hanging with me is about the only way I think you could build an affection for Toni Lydman judging by the way some people respond to him. Also? Heh heh heh. My first little hockey solider... (Also, thanks! :-D)

may i make a wee contribution to the lovefest? i'm not sure how long i've been reading both of your blogs, but i do remember thinking at some point how very cool it was that there were all these smart, funny women out there blogging about my boys on the ice. and although it was Margee and the top 10 challenge that actually got me out of the lurking woodwork, i'm glad i did so that i can give you two the mad props you deserve.

happy anniversary, Kate! ice cream and shower caps for all! and Heather, keep up the fablious work; this exile is gaining a new appreciation for her hometown from your adventures this summer.

This has got to be the sweetest post ever written! You two are the bomb, but you know that!

I want to say as someone who spends a lot of time reading the hockey blogosphere and thinking about the hockey blogosphere and dreaming about taking over the hockey blogosphere, I really think the Sabres might have the best fan blog compliment out there. You all really do run such a gamut that there's something for everyone, and as you said, taken together, it's a really spectacular thing.

So happy blog birthday Kate, and congratulations Sabresogosphere for kicking ass!

Haha! You called Kevin old. It's funny because it's true.

Heather, I'm not going to lie, I've listened to that song once or twice
(or a million times).

Oh, one more thing. Although I've been enjoying this song for years, I had never seen the video until today. I pretty much can't buh-LIEVE the video to this song is three shirtless nerdly dudes cuddling in bed together. It's like Ben Folds is in my HEAD or something.

Morgaine, I'm so glad you de-lurked over here! I love how many female hockey bloggers there are both in general and in Buffalo too. Thanks for your very kind words!

Pookie, thanks for loving the Sabres bloggers out there. It's nice to know someone outside of Buffalo is enjoying us as well. Sabresogosphere is totally my favorite new word.

289, I don't think Kevin is actually TERRIBLY older than me but hey, I'll take what I can get.

Congratulations to both you Katebits and Heather B. I was drawn first to Top Shelf from HLOG and was eventually introduced to TWC from there. I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed reading both of your blogs for almost a year now. Since then I have to check your blogs, bfloblog, goose's roost, etc daily! I find your blogs both witty and informative and can't stay away! Can't wait for the next season to start and for a fantastic year from our Sabres! For now I'm stuck in Pittsburgh but missing Western NY! Congrats again!

Oh...and GO BILLS (even if it is just a preseason game - I hope we crush those stupid "Stillers")
