After a full week of no hockey and very little to write about, tonight there was finally, finally something NHL-related going on. So what does your intrepid blogger do? She sleeps through the whole thing. I took a short nap after work yesterday and woke up with a sore throat and horrible congestion. Yeah, it was pretty much the worst nap ever. I probably would've bailed on work today if it weren't for the fact that I'm already missing a day next week for my trip to the draft. I meant to get out of bed when the awards ceremony started. Really, I did. But I didn't quite pull it off. It's going on 10:00 and I just managed it. (You know, just in time to be up all night and then drag myself to work again tomorrow.)
But let's face it, the NHL awards ceremony is terrible. It's terrible and predictable. Without having seeing one second or read one word about it, I'll bet I can more or less tell you what happened. Ron MacLean was cheesy, the band was average, and at least one awkward moment occurred with a small child. Alexander Ovechkin won a couple of awards as did Pavel Datsyuk including Jason Pominville's Lady Byng. Pominville looked adorable while losing as did Guy Carbonneau (maybe less adorable and more stylishly handsome). All the highlights of the Selke nominees were fancy goals even though it's an award for defense. Buffalo's disappointment with Pominville's loss was rectified somewhat when Patrick Kane won the Calder while appearing to be 13-years-old. Martin Broduer won his 18th Vezina and Nicklas Lidstrom won his 34th Norris and even though guys like that should be totally hated, both of them were charming and likable. Just about everyone else gave stilted, boring speeches although one of the non-English speakers was probably very sweet. The end.

Heather, next year I'm just going to ask you what's going to happen instead of watching it! You nailed it!
It's like you're PRESCIENT!
Damn, Heather, you're good!
Feel better!!!!
Hope you feel better. I wish I had slept through it. I watched long enough to see "candy corn head" take Pomers award and then turned it off. That was a snooze!
Yeah, every single year I get excited about watching the show and every sing year about fifteen minutes in, I wonder why. I'm as predictable as the ceremony is.
And I'm already feeling better, thanks! I think the extra rest helped.
I'm not surprised the NHL awards ceremony isn't any good. There's a reason none of the other sports even have ceremonies.
