Happy Birthday, Thomas Vanek!

Unfortunately, at the ripe old age of 24 you're officially considered washed-up and hopeless. Now that you've passed this benchmark birthday in year one of a seven year contract, I think it's safe to say that you're a failure and signing you was a HUGE mistake. It's all downhill from here. After all, you're practically in your mid-twenties! Every other hockey player in the history of the world had played his best hockey by now.

Oh, well. Try and have a good day anyway, buddy!

Yesterday this guy called in to the Schopp/Bulldog show on WGR saying that yes, he wanted to take the draft picks that day last summer when we accepted Vanek's tender.

Sorry, buddy, but I'm not buying what you're selling.

People, get back to me in five years and I'll answer the question about whether we should have taken the draft picks from Mr. Lowe. Not after half a season! And we're not only factoring in Vanek's play here, but the four guys we could have picked. Do you realize how many first round busts there have been in hockey? And Vanek happens not be one of them!

Geez. Buffalo, sometimes you make me laugh. But it's lovable, really it is!

When Vanek gets going, guys like that will pretend they knew it all along.
