Just so you know, I've been thinking about blogging a lot. I've even opened up an empty post page a few times and then sat staring at it. The sad, sorry truth is, as much as I want to blog right now, I just don't have anything to say.
I know, I can't believe it either.
I mean, I could talk about the fans booing Patrick Lalime, or Patrick Kaleta calling out the crowd, or Matt Cooke's hit on Marc Savard, or Alexander Ovechkin's hit on Brian Campbell but I don't have a ton to say on any of those subjects. (The Lalime booing was a little mean-spirited but it was weird that everyone was acting like he needed protecting from the big, mean fans. I'm fine with Kaleta calling for more noise but hey, you might get booing. Matt Cooke's hit was ridiculous and for all the NHL's talk about how they can't suspend someone based on next year's rules, they sure as heck would have found justification to suspend him if he'd hit someone a little higher on the name recognition chart. Also, why can't we just make that rule change effectively immediately? You know, for safety and stuff. Alexander Ovechkin's an extremely talented reckless douchebag, the Caps organization is a bunch of crazy enablers from the owner right on down the chain, and I was surprised at how badly I felt for poor Soupy. Aw.)
In addition to being kind of overwhelmed with midterms the last week or so, I'm just ready for the regular season to be over. I am. I was astonished to look at the schedule a few days ago and realize there's still 15 or so games to go. That's too many!
I will say this. It seems to be the general consensus that the Sabres are going to be one and done this postseason. I don't see that. If they finish in the top 4 - and I think they will - I don't see why they shouldn't beat anyone in the lower half of the EC playoffs. After that it gets dicier but one round? Yeah, I think we got that.
Despite my temptation to delete this, I'm putting it up just so you know I'm alive. After this week I won't be so crushed at school and will start paying attention to the Sabres again. The regular season will be over then, right?

Totally feel you. Season is dragging. I wonder how much it has to do with USA playing in the Olympics. Everyone was caught up in it and some even acted as if it was their version of the Stanley Cup.
Have to remember that both sports teams have only two playoff years in the last 8 years. Everyone was watching those games with great anticipation and it's a big come down to go from seeing that type of hockey to Sabres vs Wild snooze fest.zzzzzzz...
I am with you on wanting the season to be over. It's exactly what I predicted when all the "experts" talked about the boost the NHL could get from the Olympics. Right. That USA v. Canada final was one of the best HOCKEY games I have ever watched and I have a large sample size to draw from. For a casual fan to watch that, then tune into an inusufferably boring NHL regular season game swallowed up by traps and systems and riddled with cheap shots? Doubtful.
Speaking of cheap shots, this past weekend is yet another shining example of why, though I LOVE the game of hockey, I absolutely HATE the NHL. Ovechkin deservedly received a two game suspension. No question. He has a history and it was a reckless play that injured Campbell. But Matt Cooke received zero games for clearly targeting another player's head. But worse, Steve Downie, on the same day, committed perhaps the most reprehensible act I ever seen on the ice by pulling Sydney Crosby's knee under him. That was not just intent to injure, that was intent to ruin a career. So long as clowns like Downie, Neil, Ruutu, Avery and the like (This is far from an exhaustive list) can continue to exist in the NHL doing nothing more than endangering players while contributing nothing in the form of actual hockey skill, the league will continue to be a total, unadulterated joke.
I completely forgot about the Downie on Crosby thing. I can't BELIEVE he didn't get a suspension for that. The fact that Crosby was involved and there was STILL no suspension voids the one thing the NHL had been fairly consistent about, stars getting protected. Really tough to figure that one.
I detest Crosby but I think Downie should be suspended for the rest of the season for that one. Don't understand their line of thinking, unless they have no time to watch football to understand how the Golden Boy could have had his career ended by that move.
