Breaking News: Sabres Might be Okay!

Step away from the ledge, Buffalo! NHL.com thinks the Sabres are going to be pretty okay next season. (Normally, I make fun of NHL.com because I think it's funny that they're always the last website to update NHL-related stories and happenings. But right now I'm just happy to read something from someone who doesn't think the Sabres are going to be in Hamilton this time next year.)

Also! I heard a clip of Lindy Ruff on WGR this afternoon and he did say, regarding Drury and Briere, "Those are big holes to fill." But! He went on to say, "We still have Timmy Connolly who wasn't healthy all of last season. We still have Drew Stafford who's excited and eager to take on more responsibility. We have a pipeline of young talent that we think is pretty good." And there was more of that Ruff, I don't really give a rip if you agree with me or not attitude in his voice. So either the Buffalo News caught him in a particularly bad moment or they didn't tell the whole story. (Perish the thought.)

Annnnd, the local news just led the sports segment with a story about Daniel Briere buying a house in Philadelphia. Why, local news? Why? I cannot miss them if they do not go way.

It's a shame that, if they want to cover hockey, they don't cover actual hockey happenings. There is a prospect camp, with players like Stafford who will be with the big team this year, going on right now, newspeople. And LOCAL BOYS...that's always a great news thing, right? Why don't they do a little bitty segment on the future of the team?

Because really? I don't care about anyone buying a house anywhere and I kind of doubt I'm alone in that.

I'm glad Ruff was sounding feistier than the news made him out to be. That's nice to hear.

Heather, you'd be so proud of me! I am watching last weeks Game to Remember, (yes, Drury's hat trick. I guess I'm just a glutton for punishment)and I just saw a player skating gracefully and attractively and I thought to myself "I wonder if that's Hank?" And it totally was! I recognized him based purely on your loving description of his skating. Maybe I'm a Tally-ho too!

Okay. I saw the hat trick. Time to back away from the television. Fortunately, Drury managed to project blandness even in the middle of achieving an impressive personal goal. Unfortunately, his weird blandness is an like some sort of bizarre aphrodisiac to me.

Well, I faced it. I consider this an important step in the healing process.

The pounding of Philadelphia 9-1 is on now. I keep hearing Spacek scored, he kept it in, he got it out, nice pass etc. all while paired with Campbell. That seemed to work better than Kalinen.

When was Spacek paired with Kalinin though? As far as I can remember Kalinin was with Numminen the entire year and Spacek with Campbell. Numminen and Campbell only became a pairing during the playoffs when Kalinin's icetime was taken away (so basically the last 2 or 3 Ottawa games. Am I imagining things?

Woo-ooo! That was a GREAT Game to Remember! Hardly a peep out of Drury and Briere, and Vanek, Roy, Afinogenov are all OVER the place. Aaah, that was just what the doctor ordered.

Kate, I can't believe you watched that game - I don't think i could handle it - but I'm so proud of you for recognizing Hank. And relieved that you thought he was skating gracefully and attractively after the way I repeatedly harp about it.

Becky and Meg, I would've said Spacek and Campbell were together most of the season as well. I do recall liking them as a pairing at first so I'm not sure what exactly happened though I would argue that Spacek, while maybe not as fully advertised, wasn't as terrible as some would lead you to believe.

Told you so! And Hank scored! Tally-hooooooo! I was at that game so it was cool to see it on TV with Rick and Jim's broadcast. I remember actually being tired from all the standing up and screaming.

I didn't quite watch it. There was a lot of fast forwarding and wandering out of the room. I have no idea what came over me. I needed to get that game off my DVR and out of my life, but I couldn't bring myself to delete it outright. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I was really glad to have another, less S,PW-centric game to watch right afterwards.

Hank's a dish.

Hank's a dish.

He has kind of a pointy profile but otherwise yeah, he's totally dreamy.

Actually, my depth of knowledge on defensive pairings is a bit sporadic.

I had asked my teenage son, who is a virtual current NHL memory bank, when they had stopped that pairing...he replied "I don't know", so I assumed it had happened earlier in the season.

I should have assumed that he wasn't really listening to me :)

I also think that Ruff is a great coach and he will get the max from his players.

This just discovered! When writing your post, if you click on the word "title" you can usually get the cursor to appear on the title line (with another click there).

I'm having the same problem...so this worked most of the time, and you can edit it the same way.

Becky, thanks for the title help! That's been driving me crazy so I'm off to try and edit them right now.

Well, in not seeing any headlines, I have another suggestion...I usually use Firefox (which dumped most of my bookmarks the other day, not that they didn't need cleaning up).

In an experiment, I just signed on to IE and the title worked fine...This time anyway! Of course, that means you have to remember & type in the password, or download a password memory thing, but it's an idea.
