Okay, When's the GOOD Hockey Start?

I'm watching the Chicago-Vancouver game as I write this and I gotta tell ya, I don't care one whit for either of these teams. I don't really hate either of them but I don't really like either of them either. It's the Battle of Who Could Care Less. I was determined to come into this series with an open mind and heart because there are a couple of players I like on both sides and no one I really dislike - not even ol' Soupy although I do enjoy watching his defensive miscues replayed - but this game is not helping matters. I actually flipped over to the basketball game because it sounded more entertaining. And I do not really care for basketball. Before tonight I had already picked Vancouver in 7 and I'll stick with that.

More about the other match-ups later. I'm exhausted and want to get to bed. Before I call it a night, I just wanna say, how the everlovin' heck is Teppo Numminen not a Masterton finalist? He had OPEN HEART SURGERY! His rib cage was cracked open! His HEART! THE MOST MAJOR OF MAJOR ORGANS! He was playing in the freakin' NHL a year later! That's remarkable. He's also been around forever and is well-respected by pretty much everyone. He's the perfect storm of all the reasons people win this thing and yet nada. I don't get it. I figured Richard Zednik had a pretty good chance of winning but for Teppo to not even be a finalist is outrageous. I am outraged.

ETA: Well, it seems that game got at least somewhat entertaining after I turned off the TV. Darn. Still, hard to get a handle. I was neither happy or nervous when I heard that Chicago made it interesting. Bring on the Detroit and Boston!

Teppo exemplifies what that trophy stands for and for him not to be even in the running is a down right blasphemy.

The problem is that the national media loves the Red WIngs, so Chelios is sitting in Teppo's spot right now. I think the other two, Zednick and Sullivan are both deserving. Chelios is just old.

Teppo? Wasn't he one of the Marx Brothers?

Greg, I'm okay with a guy who's been around forever getting a nomination. I actually do kind of hate the way the award usually defaults to the guy who had the worst injury. But Teppo has BOTH of those working in his favor. I really, really don't get it.

Lee, proof that we're related. Teppo being the lost Marx brother is one of my favorite hockey-related jokes.

Um, I have to disagree with you on one point. The brain is the most major of all the organs. If the heart shuts down you can sometimes put it on bypass and fix it, as Teppo demonstrated, but if the brain goes out then it's all over. The brain sends the electrical impulses to control everything.

My nerdiness aside I agree with everything else in the post.

Sharpie, when you're right, you're right. Even while I was writing that sentence I could remember a doctor once telling us during a Sunday School lesson that life starts and stops with the brain waves. But I was on a roll. I should have known someone around here would be smarter than that :P

Oh yeah! Well I say the liver is most important!

I think I'll just keep all of my organs to be on the safe side.

The Chicago series is really the only I can bring myself to watch. Could be that I have a huge hockey crush on Toews.

I'm thinking Natasha has proven her hockey knowledge better than any of us commentors. LOL

While people are correcting you, mein Schwester, I expect better from you in your use of idioms.

The phrase is "Couldn't care less."

If you can care less, you're caring too much and room for less caring.

John, I made that mistake on purpose. "Battle of Who Could Care Less" is a song.
